New to period underwear?

How It Works

Wear, rinse, reuse. Here is how it works, without the jargon.

Period underwear is still new to a lot of South Africans. Here is how it actually works, without the jargon.

The short version

You wear it instead of a pad or tampon. Built-in layers absorb, lock moisture away from your skin, and stop leaks reaching your clothes. At the end of the day you rinse it, wash it, and wear it again. A pair lasts two to three years.

How long can I wear a pair?

8 to 12 hours, depending on your own flow. Lighter days go further. On heavier days, many people change once during the day and use a higher-absorbency pair overnight.

How many do I need?

Three to five pairs covers a full cycle. Three is where most people start: one on, one in the wash, one spare. Five means you wash less often and never run short. That is why our value packs come in threes.

How do I wash them?

Rinse in cold water after wearing, because hot water sets stains. Then hand wash with mild soap. Skip the fabric softener, it coats the fibres and reduces absorbency. Air dry out of direct sunlight. Treated this way, a pair lasts two to three years.

Will it actually hold?

This is the real question, and it is a fair one. Every Mongato style carries an absorbency rating so you can match a pair to your day rather than guess. Start with your flow, not the style.

Does anyone know I am wearing them?

No. They look and feel like ordinary underwear. Our Seamless range is designed to disappear under fitted clothing.
