How does period underwear work?

Boxes of Mongato period underwear

The honest answer to the question everyone asks first: will it hold?

The layers

Period underwear works because of what sits between the outer fabric and your skin. A top layer moves moisture away quickly so you do not feel wet. An absorbent core holds the flow. A leak-resistant layer underneath stops anything reaching your clothes.

It is not a pad sewn into underwear. The layers are built into the garment, which is why it does not shift, bunch or announce itself.

How much does it hold?

That depends on the style. Our highest-absorbency style, Mongato Ultimate, is built for heavy days and overnight. Lighter styles suit the start and end of a cycle.

This is why we rate every style rather than making one claim for the whole range. Your heavy day and someone else's are not the same thing.

How long can I wear a pair?

8 to 12 hours, depending on your own flow. On a lighter day you may go the whole day and not think about it. On a heavy day you may change once and use a higher-absorbency pair overnight.

Will anyone notice?

No. There is no bulk and no sound. Our Seamless range is designed to be invisible under fitted clothing.

What if I am worried about the first time?

Wear a pair on a lighter day first, at home or at work, and see how it behaves. Almost everyone stops thinking about it after one cycle.

Ready to try a pair?
